Job Description:
The Analytical Chemistry US ensures developing and providing safe, innovative and cost-effective technology and Analytical Chemistry services to support Shell P&T, Downstream and Upstream businesses, both in the US and globally. The Gas Chromatography (GC) Chemist will be part of The US Analytical Chemistry department’s Gas Chromatography and Liquid Chromatography (GC/LC) team and will be responsible for designing and supporting a broad range of GC applications.
Accountabilities:
Technical responsibility for method development, gate keeping, evaluation, and implementation of new capability for a range of gas chromatography techniques including GCXGC, various injection (such as PTVs, split-splitless, large volume injections) and detection techniques (such as MS, SCD, NCD, etc.).
Design, develop, validate, deploy and maintain various process analytical instruments and methods onsite for on-line and at-line measurements, using primarily process GC, but sometimes mass spectrometry and optical spectroscopy.
Close interaction with internal customers, identifying applications and contributing to business by own expertise including but not limited to contributing to R&D projects.
Manage projects to meet deliverables, budgets and time-constraints.
Collaboration with local and global Analytical colleagues on multi-disciplinary problem-solving projects.
Day-to-day hands-on work in the laboratory as well as supervision of laboratory staff performing testing, while paying close attention to safety and quality.

Requirements:
Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry with specialization in Chromatography required
Minimum of ten (10) years hands-on experience in Chromatography, highly preferred.
Experience with comprehensive 2-dimensional gas chromatography (GCXGC) would be preferred.
Effective knowledge of gas chromatography including choice of columns, detectors, and associated hardware.
Strong interest and experience working with instrumentation.
Strong mechanical, trouble-shooting and problem-solving skills related to GCs.
Strong computer skills with OpenLab knowledge as a plus. Ability to design custom solutions for
chromatographic data including GCXGC, simulated distillation and detailed hydrocarbon analysis.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
