JOB OVERVIEW

As one of the oldest medical schools in the country, the UC College of Medicine has a reputation for training best-in-class health care professionals and developing cutting-edge procedures and research that improves the health and clinical care of patients.

 

A full-time Research Assistant or Senior Research Assistant position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Rajat Madan in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.  Madan Lab has a research focus on understanding host responses to Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI).  Classification and salary will be commensurate with experience.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

*Perform research activities based upon protocols developed by other research staff in the lab. Collect, record, and consolidate data.  *Assist in documenting compliance with safety and regulatory guidelines.  *Preparation of reagents, calibration, and maintenance of laboratory equipment and inventory of reagents and samples.  *Manage procurement of supplies and materials, initiate purchasing requests, and monitor accounts/expenditures.  *Maintain mouse colonies and mammalian and bacterial cultures.  *Effectively communicate with team members and contribute to their growth by sharing knowledge, experience, and skills.

REQUIRED EDUCATION

*Bachelor's Degree in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or a related field. *Five (5) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement. *Additional related work experience may be required depending on field or discipline.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

*At least 6 months of experience working in microbiology, cell biology, immunology, or biochemistry laboratory. *Basic knowledge of general microbiologic techniques (culture, storage, and safe handling of pathogenic agents, etc.), standard molecular techniques (PCR, agarose gel electrophoresis, etc.)

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS CONSIDERED

Basic experience with data analysis and presentation software (Microsoft Excel, Word, Prism, etc.) are desired.

*Office environment/no specific unusual physical or environmental demands.
