Description
The Director of Payment, Policy, and Care Delivery Research will develop and lead a broad, high-impact portfolio of research in the fields of health policy, health economics, health services research, value-based payment, and delivery system reform. The Director will work with executive leadership across Humana to design research studies, lead a team of researchers to conduct those studies, and disseminate their results internally and externally.
Responsibilities
Humana is hiring a highly skilled researcher to function as the principal investigator-leading a team of researchers from study inception to dissemination of results-for a research portfolio in the fields of health policy, health services research, and value-based care delivery. The ideal candidate is a successful, well-published, mid-career researcher eager to identify and answer novel, nuanced, and highly relevant questions related to payment and delivery system reform.
The Director of Payment, Policy, and Care Delivery Research will directly manage a team of dedicated researchers. As a leader within Humana's Healthcare Research team, the Director will have access to a unique infrastructure to support these activities: diverse, experienced researchers; unique internal data assets; access to national and other external datasets; research partnerships with leading academic institutions; and the ability to design and evaluate novel care delivery and financing models at scale.
Main responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Develop and execute a research agenda in the realms of health policy, health economics, and health services research, with a focus on value-based payment and delivery system reform
Collaborate with leaders across Humana to identify research studies that advance Humana's understanding, and contribute to generalizable knowledge, of approaches to payment and care delivery that improve outcomes and/or control spending
Lead a team of researchers in the design and execution of retrospective and prospective studies
Direct the communication of study results internally and externally, including publications in peer-reviewed journals
Identify, develop, and manage academic collaborations to incorporate additional subject matter expertise and otherwise advance Humana's research efforts in the above focus areas
Required Qualifications
Masters or Doctorate degree with health care focus (e.g., health policy, health economics, health services research, or public health)
10 years of relevant experience; mix of private and public sector
Experience leading and publishing research studies in the fields of health policy, health economics, and health services research, including publication of manuscripts in leading peer-reviewed journals
Ability to function as the primary research methodologist guiding study design and execution
Ability to communicate research design and findings to academic, business, and clinical audiences
Ability to cultivate, establish, and maintain relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders
Experience working within, or collaborating with, health systems, payers, or other non-academic institutions
Excellent verbal and written communication
Preferred Qualifications
Doctorate degree with health care focus (e.g., health policy, health economics, health services research, or public health, health economics)
Research experience in the fields of managed care and/or Medicare Advantage
Experience designing and/or evaluating new payment and delivery models
Current or prior academic affiliation or appointment
