What’s the role?

Shell Energy Americas is seeking an individual to join our Gas and Power Market Fundamentals team who will focus on US Power markets over the medium to long term time horizon. This position is responsible for supporting the following divisions in RDS: Renewables & Energy Solutions (R&ES), Shell Energy North America Trading (SENA), and Strategy (SX).

The Senior Power Analyst will be responsible for developing a deep understanding of the key mid-term and long-term drivers such as generation (wind, solar, gas fired, coal fired, etc.) transmission, regulatory, and demand.

This position must build credibility with internal customers so that such foresight can be translated into commercial gain primarily supporting new investment opportunities in the Renewables & Energy Solutions division. The emphasis is on developing both qualitatively and quantitatively advantaged capabilities, supported as appropriate by models, tools and techniques that yield high quality insights. Collaborating with peers in the Short-Term Power Fundamentals team to build scalability in this respect is essential.

Responsibilities:


Develop power models for USA and Canada.
Use fundamental analysis techniques to support R&ES, SENA, and SX.
Research and understand the fundamentals drivers related to supply/demand/transmission in the context of medium to long-term modelling focused on developing forward pricing views that will be used for investment and trading opportunities.
Monitor market developments in market design/regulatory issues that could impact prices.
Maintain and perform models capable of zonal and nodal market simulations .
Work closely with short-term natural gas and power analysts in market view development.


What we need from you


Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
Master's OR Doctorate Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field is strongly preferred.
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or Economics is required.
Minimum 7 years of experience in Power Fundamentals.
Must be able to develop Fundamental views that will be translated into profitable investments/trades.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relations at multiple levels and across teams.
Exceptional communication and presentation skills, both written and oral.
Ability to filter multiple perspectives for commercially actionable intelligence.
Demonstrated understanding of Power Market Fundamentals.
Working knowledge of at least one of the following applications Modelling platforms such as UPlan, Plexos, ProMod, Powerworld, Aurora, or any other related modelling software experience,
