The School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics is home to an extensive portfolio of research from offshore renewable energy, coastal engineering and robotics to cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and data science. The School brings together internationally recognised research staff with close industrial links through collaborative research and development across the UK and internationally. The research project (under EuroSwac - European Sea Water Air Conditioning), aims to advance new sustainable energy technologies and storage in marine environments. The research will utilise facilities at University of Plymouth’s Brixham Laboratory to deliver an impact demonstrator which exploits the use of energy recovery technologies and distribution designs to maximise energy utilisation efficiencies. This include impact analysis of seawater discharge on marine environments through physical, analytical and numerical modelling to provide solutions for economical renewable energy resource. Two positions are available and applicants are invited from early career researchers and/or professional engineers who can demonstrate commitment and enthusiasm for innovative research. Candidates to fill this role should have: a strong research background in relevant disciplines (such as Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or Computer Science), or in related fields; specialist knowledge in subject areas of Fluid Mechanics, Computational Fluid Dynamics and Thermodynamics / Heat Transfer; experience or awareness on sea water air conditioning, or related systems. expertise in computer programming or use of open-source codes.
