The analyst will be co-responsible for developing the short, medium, and long term (now through 20 years) gas and LNG views with focus on China. The two primary customers of this role are Shell Energy and Integrated Gas/New Energies (IG/NE).
What’s the role?
This role is responsible for bringing supply, demand, pricing, infrastructure, and policy views together, monitoring and modeling key drivers to develop forward-looking views on China (and its regional markets) across all time horizons. The emphasis is on developing both qualitative and quantitative capabilities, supported as appropriate by network and models/tools. Therefore, while using technology to build scalability will be important, collaborating with peers in other fundamentals and intelligence teams will be essential to succeed.
You will thrive in the following competencies:

This role will provide a unique opportunity to support Shell Energy profitability, while informing long-term decisions to develop a resilient portfolio into the 2020s’ and beyond. Therefore, building credibility with both Energy Traders and IG colleagues will be key to translate analytical insights into commercial and strategic gains.
More specifically, you will:
Serve as a “go-to person” for analysis of gas and LNG markets primarily focusing on China, collaborating closely with Shell Energy’s analytical teams, Shell Energy China’s commercial teams and gas and LNG traders across Shell Energy.
Track and analyze developments in China’s domestic gas production, imports via key cross-border gas pipelines and LNG terminals.
Track and analyze China’s gas/LNG demand by key sectors (industry, power generation, and space heating) using a bottom-up modeling approach.
Track and analyze China’s domestic gas/LNG pricing reforms and market liberalization policies.
Develop an internal view on supply and demand fundamentals – be able to logically, clearly, and as necessary, provocatively articulate this view to stakeholders.
Understand key dynamics of overall energy markets in China and evaluate the implications to gas and LNG with a special focus on the role of gas in the energy transition.
Identify and help develop quantitative and qualitative tools and models to enhance the quality and accuracy of forecasts that will be used as an input to other internal models and for commercial decision-making.
Develop and maintain relevant database and models to support China gas and LNG market analysis.
Improve the quality and timeliness of intelligence through the development of internal/external network of contacts and capture synergies across the organization.
What we need from you?
