Purpose & Accountabilities
Purpose
Chemists in Analytical Technical Services are responsible for using their analytical and business knowledge to solve a broad range of customer problems. This entails understanding customer requirements, formulating experimental programs with due attention to safety, and reporting results.
This specific position is targeted at providing Mass Spectroscopy support to both customers at the local hub and, in collaboration with global Analytical Chemistry colleagues, customers at the other hub locations. This includes regular interaction with technical colleagues to share best practices throughout the organization, supporting the implementation of a highly collaborative work environment that is very conducive to creating business impact while also expanding technical skills and business knowledge.
Accountabilities
Utilize a range of Mass Spectroscopy techniques for gasses, liquids and solids including GC-MS, Field ionization and field desorption -TOFMS, LC-MS with Electrospray /atmospheric ionization techniques and FTICR-MS, to support a range of business clients.
Contribute to and coordinate problem-solving activities that based on a range of analytical techniques.
Develop new applications as per evolving business needs using hyphenation of MS with other techniques and/or using digital approaches for advanced analysis of data
Work effectively with the local and global Elemental, Separations and Spectroscopy/QMI teams as well as the local and global business partners
Using Mass Spectroscopy to help internal clients understand what is happening in their products, process streams or laboratories.
Develop new analytical methods, implement advanced analytical instrumentation, and manage on-going testing activities supporting R&D programs and Downstream/Upstream operations
Through the Analytical Global Skill Networks, collaborate with technical colleagues at all hub locations to share technical and customer knowledge, as well as propagate best practices throughout the organization
Create business impact while expanding your technical skills.
Gatekeeping on new technology (technical conferences and university outreach)
Manage R&D projects
Participate and lead problem solving
Knowledge management by documenting methods and reports.
Mentor colleagues who wish to acquire expertise in this area
Dimensions
Help manage safety within own workgroup and the department
Day-to-day supervision and mentoring of one or more laboratory technicians to support technical projects

Skills and Requirements
PhD in Chemistry, Physics, Biology, preferably with additional academic or industrial experience.
-Affinity with data analytics and software applications in general.
Demonstrated ability to utilize Mass spectrometry and chemistry knowledge for problem solving and method development.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects with varying and time-critical priorities.
Capability to build and manage internal and external stakeholder relationships and able to collaborate across organizational boundaries (locally and globally)
Strong verbal and written communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences
Is curious about company business, processes, and products, and how one can contribute
Has continuous improvement mind set and is adaptive to new technology and changes
Self-motivated and result oriented
Ability to work effectively in a team and independently
