We are looking for a motivated Research Technician to join the group of Dr Ioannis Kourtzelis in the Hull York Medical School (based in York), York Biomedical Research Institute at the **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. ( ****). The Kourtzelis laboratory's research focuses on how myeloid cells orchestrate immune responses in inflammatory diseases and cancer. We use a combination of cellular assays and mouse disease models to study how myeloid cell activity can be harnessed to promote disease resolution (Kourtzelis et al., Nature Immunology 2019; Kourtzelis et al., Cell, 2020).
Role
You will be part of an exciting research project and you will perform in vitro and in vivo experimental approaches to support the project development under the guidance of Dr Kourtzelis. This position will be focused on understanding how myeloid cells such as neutrophils and macrophages regulate the onset and resolution of inflammatory responses. You will work closely with all lab members on a day-to-day basis. You will perform a wide variety of approaches including mouse primary cell isolation and culture, mouse tissue processing, immunoassays (using imaging and flow cytometry) and mouse handling.
You will contribute to the training and guidance of students when appropriate. You will be involved in general lab management including record keeping and maintaining lab supplies and stocks and updating protocols and reagent databases and interacting with other laboratories.
This post is fixed term for 21 months and funded by the Academy of Medical Sciences.
Salary will be in the range £26,341- £32,344 per year pro rata, depending on experience.
Skills, Experience & Qualification needed
HNC, HND, Degree or equivalent in an appropriate science discipline or appropriate experience.
Experience working in a research laboratory, with a strong interest in immune cell biology.
Well-organised with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Candidates with experience in cell culture, immunoassays and mouse handling (PIL A/B) are strongly encouraged to apply. Appropriate training will be provided according to the candidate experience.
Highly organised personality and collaborative attitude to support the progress of the research team.
